Students who miss 18 or more days of school a year are at high risk of failing and falling behind their peers. These absences can affect academic achievement, especially for low-income students unable to make up for lost time, exacerbating the achievement gap. A pattern of poor attendance can lead to academic failure for older students, fueling the dropout rate. The Committee is developing a city-wide campaign to develop awareness, support and build community.
